Buckinghamshire Business First

Buckinghamshire Business First (BBF) provide businesses in Buckinghamshire with knowledge, support and opportunities for growth. Established in 2011 with 10 local entrepreneurs and business leaders the ‘doing-it-for-ourselves’ mentality has supported and cultivated a thriving business community of over 14,000 members – and growing.

Philippa Batting, CEO of Buckinghamshire Business First:

"To become the very first member of the DICE Club is an immense honour and a very proud moment for me and the whole team across the Buckinghamshire Business First Group.

Nowhere else are the Paralympic virtues of determination, inspiration, courage and equality better exemplified than in Buckinghamshire. These four virtues are not optional to our organisation; they are part of our fabric.

As a disability confident employer, we know first-hand the benefits of being inclusive to all. Through the Buckinghamshire Skills Hub, we see the inspiring interactions between employers and students with SEND (special educational needs and disabilities). Through Visit Buckinghamshire, we see the ongoing work of businesses and attractions to ensure their doors are open to everyone, no matter what challenge or disability they may face.

It is one thing to say you will do something, one thing to want to do something, but another thing entirely to put your values at the centre of everything you do. You have to show up. This is what we aim to do every day – and I know we’re not the only organisation in Buckinghamshire to do so.

As the Birthplace of the Paralympics and the Entrepreneurial Heart of Britain, Buckinghamshire grows world-class talent in both sport and business. With that in mind, we look forward to working with the National Paralympic Heritage Trust and our fellow DICE Club members for years to come."

At Gartec, we are dedicated to enhancing accessibility and promoting inclusive environments through our platform lift solutions, so we were keen to embrace the Disability Confident scheme, extending these principles to how we recruit and train people with disabilities within our own organisation. Wendover Wood

Established in 2014 Wendover Wood based in Wendover, Buckinghamshire produce handmade, bespoke wooden gifts and ornaments for all ages and occasions.

Robert Duggan, Owner of Wendover Wood:

"I have several connections and interests with the Paralympics. My son Thomas is Performance Director for Paralympic Archery, and another business I run was responsible for equipping the National Spinal Injuries Unit in 1983. The aims of the National Paralympic Heritage Trust need promoting. An alliance needs to be forged with Wendover Shed, a group I have helped to start, and which is in its infancy. So many things seem to be aligned and I personally am happy to support one of the most worthy local charities for the benefit of all and the promotion of the work of Ludwig Guttmann. Some of his ideals synchronise so much with the aims of the Wendover Shed. Additionally, if interaction of local charities can be achieved then survival in these difficult times becomes more likely."
