Virtual Volunteer role description

The National Paralympic Heritage Trust is embarking on a five-year project to document and promote the history of the Paralympic movement through physical collections, exhibitions and virtually.  We want to provide an engaging and inspiring website that will form the heart of our work and allow people to explore this fascinating heritage for the first time in a single place.  We strive to provide the most comprehensive access for everyone wanting to know more about Paralympian stories, artefacts and the humble beginnings of it all at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in the 1940s.  All for the first time.

How you can help us

You will volunteer with our Digital Content Manager and our Learning and Engagement Manager to provide crucial help in bringing Paralympic stories to the virtual world through our new website.  We would like to hear from people with a good level of written English who are comfortable in using computers and the internet.

This is initially a 3-month project cataloging information and research about 29 Paralympic sports as part of our online archive about the history of the National Paralympic movement.  Each volunteer will take responsibility of researching one or more sports and submitting results for use on the website using provided research guidelines.

There will be ongoing opportunities for this role after the initial project as future research will be conducted in Paralympic athletes, officials and technology.

How we can help you

We want you to have a great time volunteering with us and get the most out the experience.  We will offer you a full induction and training as well as assigning you to a mentor and named supervisor who can help when you need it.  This is also a great chance to gain practical work experience and our team can offer mentor advice in various areas of heritage, marketing, volunteer management, project work, and administration.

Time commitment

Flexible - we would appreciate a minimum of 1 day per month fitted around your commitments. This role is suitable for anyone aged 16 or over.  You will be able to volunteer from home in your own time - all we ask is that you only commit to the research you can realistically complete in the agreed time.
