Members of BDSL attend a huge range of weekly sporting activities and have a wide range of abilities, from beginner and keen amateur to elite Paralympic and Special Olympics competitors regionally, nationally and internationally.

Multi-award winning Hillary White set up BDSL thirty six years ago. With the help of Grattan Warehouse and numerous colleagues and supporters, Hillary has developed a district wide organisation that works in partnership to deliver high quality sporting activity in a range of locations and valuable leisure activities weekly at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre and Keighley Pool.

Hillary fondly remembers BDSL’s first handful of Bradford athletes attending the National Special Olympics Summer Games in Sheffield in 1993. In recent years BDSL has sent the largest squad to the Yorkshire team for the Summer Games, and have had their first Winter Paralympic Games athlete, Jenny Lee, competing in ice skating in Sochi in 2016.
