Equestrian Sport was introduced at the Paralympic Games, Atlanta 1996.This introduction included all physical impairment groups and visually impaired athletes. Prior to that the first international dressage competitions for disabled riders were held at the 1984 World Games in New York, with the first World Championships taking place in Sweden in 1987.
