Paralympians and Parasport supporters in the New Year Honours list 2017

Following the success of Team GB at the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic games a number of athletes and parasport supporters were honoured in the New Year Honour list.

Mrs Catherine CASKIE KHAN, Scottish Wheelchair Dance Association, for services to People with Disabilities.
Mrs Jeanette Clare CHIPPINGTON, for services to Canoeing. Won medals at 5 Paralympics frm 1996 to 2004 for Para swimming; retired and became a Paracanoeist, winning Gold for Women’s K–1 200 m KL1, Rio 2016.

Miss Kadeena COX, for services to Athletics. Multiple Paralympic medallist at Rio 2016, with medals in Athletics, Gold in the T38 400m sprint, Silver in T35-38 4x100m relay, Bronze in T38 100m and in ParaCycling, Gold in the C4-5 500m time trial.
Ms Karen DARKE, for services to Sport particularly Cycling and Triathlon. Paralympic medallist, Gold in Women’s cycling H1-3 time trial, Rio 2016; also competitor at ITU Paratriathlon World Championships 2012, Gold medal TRI-1 category.

Miss Bethany Charlotte FIRTH, for services to Swimming. Bethany competes in the S14 Classification. She competed for Ireland at London 2012 Paralympics, and switched to the GB team for Rio 2016; where she won 3 Gold and 1 Bronze medals.

Aaron MOORES, for services to Swimming. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Silver in 100m backstroke S14, London 2012, Gold in 100m backstroke S14.
Ms Rachel MORRIS, for services to Rowing. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in Arms-Shoulders Women’s Single Scull; previously Rachel had been a hand-cyclist, winning Gold at Beijing 2008 in women’s individual time trial (HCA/B/C); and Bronze at London 2012 in Women’s Road Road Race H1-3.
Jonathan Phillip NORFOLK Head Coach, Para-Cycling. For services to Cycling. Jonathon had been pilot to Paralympian cyclist Anthony Kappes before switching to coaching.
Gordon REID, for services to Wheelchair Tennis. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in Men’s Singles, and Silver in Men’s Doubles; also a Grand Slammer Singles winner in 2016 at the Australian Open and at Wimbledon; and in Doubles in 2016 at the Australian Open, the French Open and at Wimbledon.
Ms Eleanor ROBINSON, for services to Swimming. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in 50m Butterfly S6, and Bronze in 100m Freestyle S6. MBE awarded at the age of 15.
Ms Susannah Elizabeth Joy RODGERS, for services to Swimming. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in 50m Butterfly S7, Bronze medals in 50m Freestyle S7 and 400m Freestyle S7; she also won 3 Bronze medals at the London 2012 Paralympics.
Louis ROLFE, for services to Cycling. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in Team Sprint C1-C5 and Bronze in Individual Pursuit C2.
Miss Lauren Rachel Catherine ROWLES, for services to Rowing. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in trunk-arms mixed double sculls (TAMix2x) event with Laurence Whiteley. Previously had been a wheelchair racer before switching to rowing.
Ms Hannah RUSSELL, for services to Swimming. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold medals in 50m freestyle S12 and 100m backstroke S12; Bronze medal 100m freestyle S13. She also won a Silver and 2 Bronze medals at London 2012.
Ms Helen Sarah SCOTT, for services to Cycling. Rio 2016 – sighted pilot with visually impaired cyclist, Sophie Thornhill; Gold medal in Women’s 1 km Time Trial B & Bronze in Women’s Individual Pursuit B. At London 2012 as pilot to Aileen Mcglynn, they won Silver & Bronze medals.
Miss Stephanie Elizabeth SLATER, for services to Swimming. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in Women’s 4 × 100 m medley relay 34pts.
David SMITH, for services to Boccia. Multiple Paralympic medallist, at Rio 2016 he won Gold in Individual BC1 event; and medals at both Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
Ms Jessica STRETTON, for services to Archery. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in Women’s individual compound W1.
Ms Alice TAI, for services to Swimming. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in Women’s 4 × 100 m medley relay 34pts.
Ms Sophie THORNHILL, for services to Cycling. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, with pilot Helen Scott, they won Gold medals in Women’s 1 km Time Trial B & Bronze in Women’s Individual Pursuit B.
John Stewart WALKE, for services to Archery. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in the men’s W1 individual compound.
Laurence WHITELEY, for services to Rowing. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in trunk-arms mixed double sculls (TAMix2x) event with Lauren Rowles.
Mrs Emma Clare WIGGS, for services to Canoeing. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in Women’s K–1 200 m KL2.  Emma had previously been a sitting volleyball competitor at London 2012.
Matthew James WYLIE, for services to Swimming. Paralympic medallist, Rio 2016, Gold in 50m Freestyle S9.
